Snap

Screenshots and screen recordings for the Mac, from the menu bar. Capture it, mark it up, hide what's private, and find it again by the words that were on it.

Download for Mac

Version 0.1.0 · 5 MB · macOS 26 or later

A capture marked up in Snap: numbered steps, an arrow with a caption, a highlight, pixelated API keys, a blacked-out card number, on a gradient backdrop

The keys you already know

⇧⌘3, ⇧⌘4 and ⇧⌘5 do what they always did, with more behind them: windows, scrolling pages, a self-timer, or just the text in an area.

Every mark stays editable

Arrows, numbered steps, text, highlighter, blur, pixelate and spotlight. History keeps the original, so you can move an arrow next week.

Record the screen

An area, a window or a display as a movie or a GIF, with the microphone, the Mac's sound, click rings and your camera as its own layer.

Private by default

Reading text, naming files, search and Smart Redact all run on the Mac. One click covers emails, keys, card numbers and faces.

Found by what was on it

History keeps every capture. Search it for a word you remember seeing.

Beautify and automate

Gradient backdrops, rounded corners and shadows saved as presets, plus actions for Shortcuts, Spotlight, Siri and Raycast.

Install

  1. Open the download and drag Snap to your Applications folder.
  2. This first version isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first launch: click Done, then open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway.
  3. Snap lives in the menu bar, under the viewfinder icon. Its welcome window asks for Screen Recording and helps with the ⇧⌘ shortcuts.
  4. From then on Snap checks here for updates once a day.
